A quite scarce overview of the history and work of an extraodrinary group of African American quilt artists from Gee's Bend Alabama, a somewhat insular community surrounded on three sides by the Alabama River.  This book delves deeply into how the families of this community lived, and how these women developed their art form.

Showcased here are the works of nearly all of the major Gee's Bend artists beginning from the 1930s, reproduced in excellent photos depicting the great variation in styles in the work.

This is an oversized book (13x11.5) printed on excellent paper, so it does weigh in at just over 7 pounds. The book is in quite fine condition, and the jacket is near-fine, with a couple of minor spots of discoloration on the front panel, and a couple of faint dings, not penetrating the top layer of the paper, mostly to the rear, as shown.
